“Why Nutrition Still Wins and How to Make It Simple.”

Dr. Andy Galpin recently joined the Rich Roll Podcast to talk about what really drives fat loss — and spoiler: it’s not more training. Here’s how that message lines up with what we’ve been doing at Woodslawn all along.

Q: Is it true that nutrition matters more than exercise for fat loss?

A: Yes. Dr. Galpin made it clear, you can’t out-train a bad diet. Fat loss starts with what you eat, because that’s where you control the biggest lever: your daily energy intake. Training builds strength, endurance, and confidence but nutrition consistency determines how your body changes.

Q: So what’s the most important thing to focus on with nutrition?

A: Protein. Every single day. Every meal. It preserves muscle, keeps you fuller, stabilizes energy, and makes your workouts actually count. If you want to lose fat and keep your strength, protein is your best friend. Proteins best friend? FIBER- about 25-30 grams daily!

Q: Do I need to track calories or macros?

A: Not necessarily. What matters more is food quality and consistency. Eat mostly real food, a combination of lean proteins, fruits, vegetables, whole grains. You don’t need to weigh and measure forever. One mindless snack or skipped meal adds up more than you think.

Q: I’m busy. How do I stay consistent when life gets chaotic?

A: Consistency beats perfection every time. Don’t chase “perfect days.” Have anchors: a go-to breakfast, a high-protein snack, water before coffee. It’s about staying 80% consistent, not 100% perfect. That’s how real people see real change.

Q: What does Woodslawn actually teach that’s different?

A: The same science Dr. Galpin talks about, but applied to your real life.

  • Protein First: Every meal, every day.
  • Quality Over Quantity: Real food most of the time.
  • Consistency Beats Perfection: Show up, even when life’s busy.

That’s the foundation of our On-Ramp, Semi-Private Strength, and W

Q: Why does Woodslawn stay aligned with this message?

A: Because it’s evidence-based and it works. Until research says otherwise, this will always be our foundation. Real food. Smart habits. No gimmicks.

Q: What’s one thing I can do this week to start?

A: Pick one of these and focus on it for 6 weeks :

  1. Hit protein at every meal.
  2. Plan your next three lunches in advance.
  3. Drink water before coffee each morning.

Small wins, stacked over time, create real change.
