As a 43-year-old—44 next week—dad, husband, and business owner, the chaos of the morning often leads to a much less productive end of the day.
Picture this: You wake up, scramble to find clothes for work or the gym, slam down a cup of coffee, maybe grab a quick bite before heading out, rush through your morning, and by noon, you’re already depleted—only to realize you’ve consumed a fraction of the calories you need while running on nothing but caffeine. The cycle continues, affecting your energy, focus, and even sleep.
Try this instead:
- Lay out your clothes the night before. I put mine on the dining room table (which we rarely use) because our evenings are often survival mode for the next day.
- Prep your first meal ahead of time. I pack mine in my lunchbox:
- 1.5 servings of Greek yogurt- I eat 5% Fage
- A small spoon of strawberry jam
- A small handful of granola (Macros: 30g protein, 35g carbs, 18g fat)
Having something easy and ready to eat in the morning makes a huge difference. Coupling that with a pre-filled water bottle with a touch of electrolytes makes a huge difference in not only my appetite, but my energy and focus throughout the day. A little forward thinking and reverse planning goes a long way in shaping my day for success.
