Mountain season is here

Mountain season is here,I’m ready to challenge my fitness! I’ve already kicked off with a great trail run, snow ball fight in 80 degree weather and a family hike! As a 43-year-old dad, husband, and business owner, I know how important it is to stay ready for anything.

Even though I’ll be climbing the trails at Mount Hood and around the PNW more, my CrossFit and strength training won’t stop. Here’s why it’s important for me to continue:

Strength Training: Helps maintain muscle mass, improve endurance, and prevent injuries. I’ll still train 2-3 days a week with lower reps and higher weight.

Metcons & Conditioning: Keeps my cardiovascular fitness high and aids recovery. I’ll continue 2-3 days a week at a little lower intensity than I usually bring. This ensures I get benefits without taxing my body and impacting my mountain time

Rucking: Allows me to build stamina and resilience, which are crucial for my longer runs. Additionally, I get a great midline workout. I won’t change my volume much here.

Nutrition: I really focus on fueling for performance and recovery. My nutrition stays consistent, with slight adjustments for long runs over 12 miles. I will add in a good bit more electrolytes, especially on sunny days.

Remember, just because your sport is in season doesn’t mean your training stops. It just looks different. Staying committed to strength training and proper nutrition will help you perform better and stay injury-free.
