Looking for CrossFit in Southwest Portland?

Yes, we do CrossFit.

No, our primary objective is not to leave you lying on the floor questioning every decision that led you to Tuesday morning.

At Woodslawn Fitness, located in Multnomah Village, CrossFit is one of several ways we coach people.

And the word coach is important.

Because we don’t believe CrossFit should simply mean putting a workout on the board, starting a clock and seeing who survives.

CrossFit should adapt to the person doing it

Our CrossFit members include parents, professionals, runners, people returning after years away from training and people who started CrossFit with us.

They’re not all supposed to do exactly the same workout.

The stimulus may be shared.

The implementation isn’t.

Patrick, a Woodslawn member for nearly three years, described our coaches as experienced and knowledgeable and specifically pointed out their emphasis on form and safety. He also noted that workouts can be tailored to an individual’s needs.

That’s not an exception to the program.

That’s the program.

You don’t need to be “a CrossFit person”

This is probably the biggest misconception we encounter.

People see CrossFit online and assume everyone in the gym is 26, shirtless and violently enthusiastic about burpees.

It isn’t Woodslawn.

Our general approach to CrossFit puts significant emphasis on strength, movement quality, appropriate intensity and sustainable training.

Some days should be hard.

Some shouldn’t.

We deliberately incorporate lower-intensity aerobic training. We spend time developing strength. We practice skills instead of expecting members to magically acquire them in the middle of a workout.

And we scale.

A lot.

That’s one reason members who initially felt intimidated by exercise repeatedly describe Woodslawn as welcoming and approachable. Across our reviews, members specifically mention coaches meeting them at their level, teaching movements carefully and helping them progress without feeling out of place.

Coaching continues after your first month

There’s another important difference.

We don’t view onboarding as the moment where coaching ends and membership begins.

Coaching is the membership.

We want the 5 a.m. parent training before the kids wake up to get coached.

We want the experienced CrossFitter who loves to get coached.

We want the 55-year-old who recently realized strength training is a must

And we want someone who’s nervous about walking into their first CrossFit gym to get coached.

If you’re looking for CrossFit in Multnomah Village, Hillsdale, Garden Home or Southwest Portland, start by coming in and meeting us.

We’ll talk about where you’re starting, what you want your training to accomplish and which program gives you the best path to get there. We call it a No Sweat Intro– a free, both in burpees and cost, consult to get to know us.
